Maribel Torres Velazquez - President

Hi! I am a 5th year PhD student in the Molecular Imaging / Magnetic Resonance Technology Lab developing and applying computational techniques to study and improve the diagnosis and follow-up treatment of neurological diseases, such as epilepsy. I was born and raised in Guayanilla, Puerto Rico so I spent most of my life running around the beach and enjoying the tropical weather — I am still adjusting to the winters in Madison :) I did my undergrad at the University of Puerto Rico-Mayagüez in Electrical Engineering. In my free time I enjoy doing CrossFit, running, drinking coffee, reading, photography, binge-watching tv shows, playing volleyball, and happy hour with friends.

I'm originally from Omaha, NE and did my undergrad at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I'm a big fan of attending concerts, practicing yoga, playing board games, and quality memes.

I am a 5th year PhD student, originally from Buffalo, NY. I did my undergrad at Rochester Institute of Technology in Chemical Engineering and worked for a year at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals before moving to Madison. I am in the Crone lab doing a mix of tissue engineering and cellular biomechanics to study cardiomyocytes as a model for heart diseases. Outside of work I love watching sports and attending Badger games, cooking and trying new foods, and spending time with friends!
